TIMOTHY P. PIATT

Timothy P. Piatt has been practicing law since 2006 and has been with the Firm since 2007. Attorney Piatt is the President and Managing Equity Partner of the Law Firm. He is a graduate of Kent State University (B.S. Ed., 2001), the University of Akron School of Law (J.D., 2006) and the University of Akron School of Business (M. Tax., 2010). He has been admitted to practice law in the Supreme Court of Ohio, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio, the U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals (Ohio, Michigan, Kentucky and Tennessee), the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of West Virginia, the U.S. Bankruptcy Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Ohio, the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, and the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia.
He is a member of the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans, the American Bar Association – Labor and Employment Law Section, the Ohio State Bar Association, the Stark County Bar Association and the AFL-CIO Union Lawyers Alliance. Attorney Piatt’s areas of concentration include Defined Benefit, Defined Contribution, and hybrid pension plans. Tim also serves as the Chairman of the Autism Society of Greater Akron. Prior to becoming an attorney, Tim was a High School Teacher and a bus driver.

Tom Griffith has been practicing law since 1990. Attorney Griffith is Vice President and an equity partner of the Law Firm. He is a graduate of Vanderbilt University (B.A.), University of Kentucky (M.A.), and Case Western Reserve University School of Law (J.D.). He has been admitted to practice law in the Supreme Court of Ohio, the U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals (Ohio, Michigan, Kentucky and Tennessee), the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Ohio, and the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Southern District of Ohio. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the Ohio Bar Association, the Stark County Bar Association, and the AFL-CIO Union Lawyers Alliance. Attorney Griffith’s skilled areas include Employee Benefits / ERISA Law, Employment Law, Unemployment Compensation Law, and Private Sector Labor Law.
Prior to joining Macala & Piatt in 2011, Attorney Griffith was in-house counsel and a senior officer of a family-owned legal publishing business, as well as an adjunct professor at a local community college. He also serves as the legal consultant for the American Philosophical Practitioners Association. In his spare time, he plays electric bass in a local rock/blues band.
JEFFREY R. BRUNO

Jeff Bruno joined Macala & Piatt, LLC as an Associate in 2016 and was made Partner in 2024. He is a graduate of Youngstown State University and The University of Minnesota Law School. Jeff is admitted to practice law in the Supreme Court of Ohio and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio. He is a member of the American Bar Association – Labor & Employment Law Section, the AFL-CIO Union Lawyers Alliance, Ohio State Bar Association, and the Stark County Bar Association. Attorney Bruno’s knowledge includes Private and Public Sector Labor Law, and the representation of jointly sponsored union apprenticeship funds and training programs.
Jeff is a former Peggy Browning Fellow at the United Steelworkers International Union in Pittsburgh, PA and served as a law clerk for the National Labor Relations Board – Region 18 in Minneapolis, MN.

Attorney Piatt’s 30+ years of experience include Pension and Health and Welfare Benefits Law, General Employment Law, and Discrimination Law. Tim is also a U.S. Navy Veteran.
RONALD G. MACALA

Ron Macala has practiced law since 1974. He is a graduate of Hiram College and the University of Akron School of Law. He has vast experience in representing labor organizations and employees in the following areas: Public and Private Sector Labor Law; Pension and Retirement Benefits; Job and Benefit Losses. Ron also has extensive experience representing employee benefit plans. He has lectured and made legal presentations at several programs sponsored by local, state and national professional organizations.
Attorney Macala has been admitted to practice law in the following courts: the Supreme Court of the United States; the Supreme Court of Ohio and all other Ohio Courts; the U.S. District Court, Northern and Southern Districts of Ohio; U.S. 4th Circuit Court of Appeals; U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals. He is a member of the Stark County Bar Association. In addition, Mr. Macala is an active member of several non-profit Boards and Agencies in Stark County.
